There are serious challenges communicating in such regions, with the first responder community and organisations including the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) and General Lighthouse Authority (GLA) having limited access to digital communication services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Working in partnership with the 5G Rural Dorset consortium and RNLI\/MCA, the Catapult recommended Excelerate be brought into the consortium to deploy an advanced wireless network along a section of the coast to improve safety on coastal and cliff paths and track patterns of usage. The advanced connectivity will improve access to applications and services, for example, the ability to alert users to local hazards including tidal dangers, cliff instability, extreme weather, and other hazards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of the 5G and IoT Rural Dorset Project the Catapult will support the deployment of 5G and test whether next generation connectivity can be delivered, where possible, using existing infrastructure, such as masts, buildings, and fibre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Excelerate\u2019s team has also joined the Catapult\u2019s Health Living Lab programme, which facilitates collaboration between ambulance trusts, clinicians, commissioners, and technology providers to positively impact the speed and effectiveness of diagnosis, treatment, and care of patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Partnering of the Health Living Lab programme will enable Excelerate and the other members of the consortium to collaboratively leverage specialist mobile communications technology, utilising 5G, ESN-ready, optimised 4G and the next generation satellite technology and services (LEO). Excelerate\u2019s capabilities are now being used in new sectors and on a diverse range of large partnership projects.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow
